Matt Walden thrives on helping others find their path - whether that means mentoring young people or guiding a first time home buyer. He believes that treating people well, and sharing your time, talent and treasure with others is the only way to live a happy and successful life.
From New York to Topsail Island:
Matt was born and raised in upstate New York (with a few childhood years spent in Chicago). After graduating high school, he moved to New Jersey, where he took a position with UPS and spent the next 37 years moving up thru the ranks to become an often recognized mentor and trainer of new hires ,teams and drivers.
After receiving a Topsail Vacation as a wedding gift, Matt Walden and his wife fell in love with the area and purchased their first property in 2019. After visiting for several years, they decided to make the Topsail area their permanent home. In addition to a Shipwatch Villa’s condo, they are planning their dream house in Mimosa Bay. Once in North Topsail Beach, Matt joined the HOA for his condo association to stay abreast of what is happening in the area. These skills – working with and training others, helping to set goals, organization, and staying informed – dovetail perfectly with those needed in real estate.
Matt has always been drawn to architecture – living near New York City provided an opportunity to see great building design and he was always particularly interested in interiors – he loved seeing the variety of brownstones and other buildings in the area. As a new Realtor, Matt plans to specialize in single family homes, and will branch out into commercial real estate. He was especially impressed with his interaction with another Treasure Team Realtor, Joann McDermon. She helped Matt and his wife with their first real estate purchase in the area and it was a no-brainer when they moved here to seek her out for advice on getting into real estate himself.
Personal Values:
Matt describes his personal values and lifestyle as never being grandiose or ostentatious. Instead, he prefers to practice humility and strives for empathy, a sharing of experiences, in his interactions with others. He says, “I had my own struggles as a young adult and there were people in my personal and professional life that stepped in to teach and guide me. To support me in my journey. That’s what I strive to do now, to be a mentor and to set a good example. To be present and to build trust.”
Family and Hobbies:
The father of two adult daughters loves landscaping and gardening and is eager to find out what grows well in our salty air. He likes to know how things work, how they are put together, so his other interest, classic cars of the 60’s and 70’s, brings him a lot of joy. His favorite thing about SE NC is the beach. This is something he didn’t experience much of growing up. He finds that while spending time nearly every day near the water, he meets visitors from all around the world. Whether they are visiting on vacation, or live here year round, they are always happy and friendly at the beach.
